The original anchors consisted of short lengths of chain secured by 10 x 100mm machine bolts and glue-capsules. The right-most bolt bent under load and was fretting the top cm or so of the hole. The glue-bond deeper within the hole was still intact. The left hand bolt was still bonded ok. Given the shallow embedment and paucity of glue inherent in this type of placement, it is surprising the anchor was still pretty much sound after fifteen years on such a popular route. The message I take from this is that our current best practice should yield anchors that are good for decades of solid use.
