Climbing with shoulder issues ?
After hurting my right shoulder 18 months ago, I have now hurt my left shoulder. Had an MRI and saw the Ortho yesterday. Confirmed a minor SLAP tear in my labrum (that will mean something to the folks I need to talk to). Good thing is ... he is not suggesting surgery at this stage and thinks we can manage it. I have an inflamed bursa as well - which has responded well to cortisone and anti-inflammatories - in just a day.
I'm curious as to whether my climbing days are done ???
Have those of you with experiences of similar shoulder injuries (with or without surgery) found ways to climb without irritation or reoccurrence? Like avoiding high reaches???? Special warm ups?
My rehab will include the usual focus on scapular positioning, and strengthening the rotator cuff group ... along with losing another 10kg I reckon. I will also be taking the theraband to the cliffs when I return to warm up those same muscles and remind them to do their job.
Fellow sufferers ... please share your wisdom.
