I think we all benefit from access to a diverse range of outdoor experiences, and the greatest threat to it is erosion of the opportunities for serious adventure due to roads, tracks, bolts, rescue helicopters, mobile phones, idiot-proof guidebooks, more people being at the crags, and other factors. That used to be so obvious to outdoor people, that it hardly needed to be said. I suppose the change is that climbers aren't all outdoor people now - they're coming from gyms rather than bushwalking clubs. I'm happy with the sport routes going up at Slider and Coolum, which weren't ever going to be adventure crags, but ambivalent about sport climbing development elsewhere, which might be devouring the adventure routes of the future.
