Bloody fantastic news, really needs its own thread. I took the phone call while at the third bolt of Four Seasons on Tibro. Could not be happier or more proud.
And to do it in the kneebar shirt? Icing on the cake.

I absolutely knew it was going to go, so I wore my sponsors T-shirt.
I knew if I didn't get that photo I'd be fielding a phone call from the angry director of www.upskillclimbing.com You gotta keep your sponsors happy, hell, without them I'd have to wear my own T-shirt. In all seriousness, thanks Lee, you taught me to aim high. To anyone else, if you don't believe in the effectiveness of climbing coaching and the benefits thereof, how do you explain an old bumbly like me pulling off a stunt like that?

That is good going indeed.
I'd love to hear all the details of how you approached each little bit of it. As you know I have some familiararity with the route, to say the least.

HAHAHA!!!!! Funny thing JJ. I actually never wanted to get on it. Whenever I looked up at it, it always looked so scungy and crap. Well, that and one day I saw
a scrawny, fuzzy haired, middle aged bloke bumbling his way up. He just made it look horrible:p
I was just focused on Major Tom for the two days I was up there. I put my draws on it and Matt decided to put draws on KBTF. I watched him go up and although he fell a few times, the time he spent on the rock doing the moves, just looked awesome. Then Ross went up and despite a sore shoulder managed to do most of the moves. As soon as Ross got to the ground and untied I had tied in for a go. All the moves felt awesome and I managed to get all the moves on my first go. The Kneebar at the top with the blank smear give me a bit of strife. My second go was crap. Third time I fell once. Fourth I fell once again, but higher up this time, then on the fifth go I got it. It was so satisfying getting the final clip. I was soooo happy. I followed the same sequence Matt showed me, bar one move. When I bought me right hand up on the slopey block at the top I didn't bother with a toe-hook in the BIG sidepull pinch thing. If that makes sense. Alan got a few photos, but it was on his SLR, so they may take a week or so to emerge. I definitely recommend this route to anyone. |

Well done Tom. Particularly impressive to do it on the fifth shot on the same day as the moves can be quite sapping. Congrats!

He had three shots on Wed when Ross drove him up there. He then stayed overnight with Sister Matt and did the next two on Thursday. A dude called Allan, or
maybe it was Rob, drove him home on Thursday. Who said climbing wasn't a team sport.
Tom and Cass have just cleaned up at the NSW climbing c'ships at Sydney Indoor today, both winning their categories. Nice work. Tom's heading up to the Blueys tonight where other climbers (another Matt I think) have offered floor space and no doubt he'll be driven around by Chuck and others. More good team work. Thanks everyone - a fantastic community. |

"scrwany, fuzzy haired, middle aged..." hey watch it! I resemble that.
There seems to be a whole bunch of climbers poised at that 29 mark at the moment, and KBTF is accessable and waiting. It may not look that appealing from the ground but it climbs well. Also, Frey got all the way through to the top section today, after not many shots, and then took the plunge. Next time for sure.
