No-one saw or wanted to comment ont he article in saturdays courier mail?
I can't find it on line.
A glass house SES ofdficer talking about rescuing climbers, how dangerous it is, how stupid climbers are. Nice pphoto used of some-one aiding the overhangs on Beerwah. Not that this photo has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with the story.
Yes the last rescue were 'climbers' dumb ones and all.. Yes this bloke probably did go in to retrieve the body of Annabel ( May she rest).. Not that that would have been particularly dangerous.
But to label anyone going past the sign on Beerwah, and being too freaked to come back down, as 'climbers' really gets my goat. As yet I'm not sure if Beerwah is closed or only the tourist track, can we still go to Mosquito, waynes World or SCO ?? They even talked about the girls on Ngun Ngun..
The huge costs of rescue was talked about. If this didn't seem like they were looking to either get out of the scenario or pre-empting charging people in one way or another I am WAAAYYYY off base. ( not that unusual ). Just as after 9/11 our fire service took up the 'RESCUE' name tag and positioned themselves as the leaders in the field (great marketing according to the Q A S ) I feel there is room for a dedicated mountain group here, if you can call what we have as mountains..
I could of course be making a mountain out of a volcanic plug.
