A great meeting. I guess the message that I took home was that we need to start talking the language of the government agencies that, whether we like it or not, are in control of our sport. Gillian made it quite clear that QORF is the way forward and like any government department, we will have to talk their talk to be heard. I am in awe of the work that the execs have done, I sometimes forget that Glen is only 25!!! The impression that I got from those guys as they stood in front of us, is that they are riding the crest of a very large wave that they began as a ripple. It is up to the rest of us to ensure that they don't capsize and drown.
I would like offer my help wherever it is needed. If you need a rep for Mount Greville I would suggest Craig as he has intimate knowledge of the routes there but if he is not interested, I would put my hand up for he job. I look out on Greville every weekend on my trudge up to the Pulpit and am gobsmacked everytime. I would relish the challenge associated with that place, as climbing there would have to be very carefully managed to ensure zero impact and would require utmost diplomacy with the authorities. I believe there is provision for the unique experience of climbing at Greville within the QORF framework.
I was great to hear the differing perspectives. I was particularly moved by the comments of Scott Camps. While many of us don't share his views on bolting, I think we can all empathise with his conservation message and my perspective is richer for his input. I guess some of us may be a little oblivious to the impact of our actions. Hopefully this amalgamation of viewpoints will gel into something that resembles a creed that will be the public face of our organisation.
