Hi Scott, I was in Rocky the other day and drove past "Jim Crow" (Does that sound right?) It looked like there was some climbing to be had there, is
that so?
Climb hard - and wear something nice.

Mt Archer has some bolted routes on it that are pretty good. I think there are two seperate crags. I have only been to the cliff line on the north eastern side
of the road. Drive nearly to the top where there is a cutting and a dirt parking area, climb over the gaurd rail and descend clear gully to base of cliff. Not
sure where to geat a guide from anymore (does anyone know where to contact Glenn Mollenhauer), but from memory they are all sport bolted (carrots) and under
grade 22.
I have not been to the second area, which to my understanding has mixed and trad routes. Mt Jim Crow is not the best rock quality. Bouldercombe Gorge has some (not much) good water polished granite. |

I didn't think much of those 'bolted sport' routes (more like mixed) halfway up Mt Archer last xmas. Some of the first bolts can be clipped without
leaving the ground! :P
Bouldercombe gorge was fun, and out near Green Lakes looked interesting... Anyone ever had a good look around Mt Larcom? (the peak not the town) |

I hear Cameran Fairbain is up there at the moment working, I also hear he may be bored, you could try contacting him.

there's also a huge bluff on the road to emerald (about an hour out of rocky)- it looks like there would be some slab routes on it

Potential is a word that should be used loosely for the cap Coast and Rocky area. There are some great sites around that require further exploration. Mt
Wheelers SW face is very interesting but at the moment access is closed as the Darumbal people have some sorry time. There is a trad route in the blow hole at
Roslyn Bay and a few lines on the side that face the harbour. There is a unfinished project in the caves at the causeway , the bouldering is better. Limestone
Ridge has some very deep and steep wells that look impressive. As far as the islands go the keppels are a pile of choss, Barren Island is granite but access is
quite difficault. The Whitsunday group has much better quality rock from what Ive seen. Anyway seek and ye shall find!

nights twice a week
its not bad unfortunately the rock climbing centre has recently closed there are a few routes on mt Archer - but i'm hopeful there is some potential for bouldering |
